Newcombe Scholarship Programs

The Foundation Mrs. Newcombe created continues and extends her interest in scholarships but does not make grants directly to individual students. Colleges and universities receive grants from the Foundation for scholarship aid to designated groups of students. Each academic institution is responsible for selection of recipients and scholarship administration according to the Foundation's guidelines. Campus committees of counselors to students and financial aid officers review applications, award scholarships and report to the Foundation. The Foundation's staff arranges conferences annually with program coordinators to facilitate administration and to encourage institutional commitment to the scholarship program. Much of the success of these Newcombe Scholarships has been due to the impressive dedication of program administrators.

Newcombe Scholarships for Students with Disabilities

These awards provide support for students who have disabilities, as their enrollment grows in colleges and universities. These awards supplement financial aid from other sources and reduce student loan burdens.

"I believe that genuine leadership emanates from a desire to help others reach their goals. The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation embodies leadership in a unique and memorable way; it chooses to recognize significant traits in students and encourage their education through a scholarship."

- H. G., Penn. State

"If all goes according to plan, I hope to graduate from Temple University in December 2007 with a B.S. in Computer Science. I am hopeful that one day, in some small way, I may be an inspiration to a young person who happens to have a serious mental illness and who may be wondering whether the pursuit of a college education is within his or her reach. The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation has contributed to my continued success - not just in terms of money, but also with regard to the committee's belief in my abilities."

- M. H., Temple University

"This scholarship means more to me than you will ever know. I want to truly thank you from the bottom of my heart for making an investment in me."

- C. G., Penn. State
